The White Stripes were an American rock duo formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1997. The group consisted of Jack White and Meg White. They were a leading group of the 2000s indie rock and garage rock revival.

They pretended to be siblings to encourage the incest rumors, obviously.

Two of their albums, White Blood Cells and Elephant, were particularly popular. They were called "the greatest live act since Jimi Hendrix" by the British Guardian newspaper, earning them fans overseas. Their single "Seven Nation Army," and its unique guitar riff, brought the band further acclaim.

This was confirmed when in February 2011 Meg and Jack announced that they would no longer record or appear as the White Stripes. The following year Jack embarked on a solo career with the stylistically expansive Blunderbuss.15 Nov 2024
